Swinerton Builds on Sustainability

Swinerton never meant to go green - it just kind of happened.

Weyerhauser wanted a green-roofed office building in the early '70s, so Swinerton constructed it. Pac Bell had plans for energy efficient headquarters in the early '80s, so Swinerton built it. J.H. Snyder's Santa Monica Water Garden project included designs for a rain-water reclamation system in the early '90s, so Swinerton did it. "We weren't proactive in the movement at all, we were just doing what our clients wanted," said Swinerton CEO Gordon Marks.
