Pacific Power To Build Commercial Solar Project
Pacific Power will start construction in May on its first commercial-scale solar project in Oregon, the utility announced today.
Swinerton Builders, which has offices in Portland and headquarters in San Francisco, Calif., will install the 9,000 panels for the two-megawatt solar project. The project’s cost is not being released.
The project, which will span 21 acres near Lakeview, is called the “Black Cap” after a popular hang-gliding launch point near the future project site.
Oregon-based Obsidian Finance Group developed the project. PacifiCorp will own the project rights and the land under the facility, but lease the equipment. The crystalline silicon modules are coming from international manufacturer SunTech, and the inverters are from Bend-based Advanced Energy Industries, Inc.
The project will bring Pacific Power close to filling its requirements for solar generation in Oregon. The utility must develop 8.7 megawatts of solar power by 2020 to meet state requirements.
