Swinerton Builders Seattle: August 15, 2014

$90 million Legends Casino expansion expected to be completed by end of 2016

The first official phase of the hotel and casino expansion at Yakama Nation Legends Casino kicked off last month with an enlargement of the parking area.

The $90 million project is now on a fast track with expected completion in winter of 2016.

The new resort, say tribal officials, will include a six-story, 200-room hotel and conference center, a 5,000-square foot spa and an expansion of the casino’s gaming floor by more than 50,000 square feet.

To further enhance the guest experience, the buffet will be relocated and expanded to include more than 375 seats with a state-of-the-art kitchen facility.

Guests looking for a quick bite will enjoy the addition of a 24/7 casino café and new food court.

Also, the return of an entertainment center will top off the renovation in 2016, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy headliners and events at Yakama Nation Legends Casino.

Seattle-based Swinerton Builders has been selected as the general contractor for the project. As part of the casinos ongoing commitment to support economic development in the local community, RJS Construction, based in Zillah, joins the expansion project as well.

In addition to completing several projects associated with the expansion, the RJS team will receive mentoring from Swinerton Builders to better position RJS to lead future large projects in this region.

Over the past three years, RJS Construction completed several back-of-house projects necessary to move the casino project forward. These include the construction of a new employee daycare and warehouse and completion of the expanded parking lot.

“We’re excited for the community and our guests as they see the transformation that will take place over the next two years,” said Kristin Lumley, Assistant General Manager.

“This major renovation effort will provide many opportunities for local subcontractors to participate, and we anticipate hiring at least 200 additional people by the time we open,” she added.

Legends Casino currently offers its guests more than 1,400 slot machines, 20 table games, a poker room, Keno, a buffet restaurant and gift shop. It is located just minutes off 1-82 and exit 50, one mile west of Toppenish.
