Cedars at Dungeness completes substantial remodel
The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, recently completed a substantial remodel in its kitchen and lobby.
Matt Eveland, food and beverage manager for the eatery, said construction began Jan. 2 and it reopened on March 16, featuring all-new equipment in the kitchen and new lighting, tiles and a revamped host area for The Double Eagle and Stymie’s Bar &Grill.
To celebrate, staff and members of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce held a tour and ribbon cutting on April 26.
The Cedars was designed and built in 1969 and opened in 1970 featuring the 122-acre golf course.
“We’ve grown a lot in the last 5-7 years, so we needed to do the work,” Eveland said.
Bill Shea, general manager and director of golf at The Cedars, previously said the business’ regular food service, specialty dinners and catering business continues to grow.
“It’s the most successful golf course and food and beverage option in the state,”
The Cedars was voted Best Golf Course in KING-5 “Evening Magazine’s” Best Northwest Escapes four years in a row.
“The food and beverage team gets a lot of pride in being the best golf course four years in a row,” Shea said.
Swinerton Builders of Seattle led construction on The Cedars’ project, which Eveland said replaced the kitchen’s appliances including doubling the size of the walk-in freezer and adding a prep kitchen.
The lobby area includes new woodwork, which Eveland said goes for a “wow factor.”
Seating in the lounge and restaurant remains the same with about 120 seats, but Eveland said tentative plans for the coming years include adding about 80 seats into the deck area, expanding the banquet room and building a new pro shop building.
Previously, Shea said The Cedars at Dungeness hosts about 125 tournaments a year and about 40,000 rounds of golf annually. It employs about 50 part-time and full-time staff working on the food and beverage side of the establishment, Eveland said.
Stymie’s Bar &Grill is open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week and The Double Eagle is open 4-9 p.m. seven days a week.
