First Technology Federal Credit Union to break ground on new corporate campus in Oregon

The new campus will be located on more than 17 acres of land in the heart of the Oregon technology community.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (May 9, 2017) — Today, First Technology Federal Credit Union, the nation’s premier credit union serving technology companies, will break ground on its new corporate campus in Hillsboro, Ore. The new campus is slated to open in June 2018 and will be home to 650 current employees – capable of housing more than 900 employees as First Tech continues to grow.

Commitment to Community and Members
For decades, First Tech has been committed to serving the technology community. The location of its new 150,000-square-foot corporate campus in Oregon’s technology hub further solidifies their commitment to the community and enables First Tech to better serve their members and select employee groups (SEGs) such as Intel, Nike and Tektronix.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, First Tech will be presenting a $34,000 grant to the Hillsboro Schools Foundation to fund STEM kits for the classrooms across the district, as well as innovation grants for K-12 classrooms.

“We’re looking forward to deepening our involvement within the Hillsboro community,” said First Technology Federal Credit Union President and CEO, Gregory Mitchell, “Our new corporate campus will allow us to work closely with the community and continue our ten-year relationship with the Hillsboro Schools Foundation to support and fund the next generation of leaders, thinkers and innovators.”

Commitment to People
The new corporate campus will be situated on 17 acres, surrounded by an existing park with walking trails, a pond and a public library just across the campus. The new building will offer First Tech employees unique amenities and building features that blur the lines between outside and inside, creating a work environment unlike many others in the banking and financial services industry.

“For us, it’s always been about putting people first,” said Mitchell. “We wanted to create a sense of community for our team. The first thing you see when you enter the building is the Commons, a two-story space that has bleachers seating and is located near the lunchroom and

lobby, creating a space where employees come to gather and share ideas. We want to encourage our employees to collaborate, interact and problem solve together on a daily basis. I feel we’ve done just that with this new campus.”  With floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a wood structural system that is exposed on the interior and a façade that reflects the natural park environment surrounding the building, the new campus feels like a part of the local park instead of another corporate campus. Hacker Architects designed First Tech’s new campus and the general contractor is Swinerton Builders.

“When First Tech came to us with the plot of land they purchased for the new campus, we were really excited to work together to design a building that blends into the park that surrounds the site,” said Corey Martin, Principal at Hacker Architects. “Together, we created a design that humanizes the workplace and pushes the envelope for the design of office buildings.”

Commitment to the Environment
First Tech is also pursuing LEED Gold Certification for the new corporate campus. Measures have been taken to ensure the building is sustainable and environmentally friendly, including the use of solar panels, ample daylight, ultra efficient electric lighting, highly insulated walls and roof, and under floor air distribution which improves indoor air quality.
