Swinerton Builders Government Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art Facility at Nellis Air Force Base

ARVADA, CO, Feb 24, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- The F-35 Flight Simulator project, which recently broke ground at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, celebrated this project milestone with an anything but ordinary ceremony. In lieu of the traditional gold painted shovel General Contractor Swinerton Builders Government provided a backhoe for the first dig to Brigadier General David J. Buck, Vice Commander USAF Warfare Center. Additional attendees at the event included Director of Operations Lieutenant Colonel Marty Garrett and the rest of the project team, Dignitaries, Military Command, and Representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Swinerton's design-build partner on the project is HDR, Inc., with whom they have been working hand-in-hand with on the project, as well as Lockheed Martin, the simulator and F-35 developers. Once complete, the much needed facility will be the center of hands-on-training for the United States Armed Forces and a place where flight teams from the Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Army can all integrate with similar armed forces from Canada, England, Israel, and others countries to complete live fire exercises in the bombing ranges 40 miles north of Las Vegas. The flight simulators being constructed on this project are of the latest generation, allowing for real-life training situations which familiarize the pilots with the operating characteristics of the fighter jets.

Scheduled for completion in March 2013, the state-of-the-art training facility will be seeking LEED Gold certification. With a legacy of delivering sustainable construction services to our Government, Swinerton is proud to be a part of this landmark project and building a better future for the United States Armed Forces.
