Swinerton Breaks Ground on Coos County Department of Human Services Building
The Coos County Airport District broke ground on a 50,000 square foot facility to consolidate regional Oregon Department of Human Services’ Child Welfare and Self-Sufficiency programs in one location.
The $12.1 million dollar facility will be completed by January 2018. Financing was provided by Business Oregon’s Infrastructure Finance Authority. Local and state officials were on hand to turn the first shovel of dirt marking the kick off construction. Swinerton Builders of Portland will complete the construction.
Following the ground-breaking on DHS’ new building on Airport District property, state and local dignitaries helped celebrate the completion of a remodel of the former ACS building. The $1.5 million dollar, 18,000 square foot building will house DHS Seniors and People with Disabilities programs. Airport Executive Director Theresa Cook says increasing the number of tenants contributes positively to the economic viability of the airport. DHS District Managers, Betty Albertson and Mike Marchant say the close proximity of the two centers will benefit the organizations which are in the business of serving people.
