Swinerton Builders Colorado took the practice of design-build to a fun level during the 2015 DBIA Rocky Mountain Region Regional Conference on May 15 at the Denver Westin Hotel. As event sponsor, Swinerton team members encouraged visitors to our booth to design a creation, and build it out of materials provided, including an assortment of Legos, modeling clay, Lincoln Logs, and a host of small action figures.
In the end, two great finalists emerged–MKK Consulting Engineers and MEP Engineering—who each presented their concepts and final product. It was a tough call made by an impartial judge, but ultimately, MKK won the competition with their Avengers/Loki character inspired, two-headed dragon ship. Congratulations to the MKK team on their creative idea, thorough design details, and exceptional craftsmanship!
On a more serious note, Swinerton Vice President and Division Manager Scott Conrad kicked off the day-long conference by introducing Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock who spoke on economic growth opportunities in the Denver metro region. The mayor was followed by Dr. Barbara Jackson of the University of Denver Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management at Daniels College of Business, in which she presented on how critical culture is to achieving optimized design-build results. Throughout the day attendees had the options of attending several break-out sessions on topics focusing on vertical construction, transportation, water/wastewater, and moving design-build forward.
Swinerton will be attending the national 2015 Design-Build Conference & Expo taking place in Denver, Colorado November 2–4.
