Swinerton is pleased to announce that its projects have earned three awards in ENR’s Mountain States 2016 Best Projects Awards.
Swinerton was awarded for the Best K-12 Education project for its DPS East Quad Campus, a new Denver Public School that houses two charter schools. The first phase of this project developed 18 acres of the site and constructed a 71,166-square-foot building for 500 students. Swinerton’s design-build team also delivered two two-story classroom wings, including a competition-size gymnasium with 500 seats, a cafetorium, athletic fields, and other support facilities.
Swinerton also took home an award for Best Small Project for its work on the Denver Place Lobby Renovation. The Swinerton team completed a challenging renovation of the ground-level lobby for Denver high-rise 999 18th Street. The project transformed 20,000 square feet into a day-lit, welcoming and modern two-story environment that fosters collaboration and provides networking areas as well as creating quieter spaces for tenants and guests. Swinerton faced the difficult challenge of removing a 1,200-square-foot section of the post-tension slab over the existing lobby while the 815,000-square-foot building was occupied—and while lobby restaurant and retail spaces remained operational.
Swinerton’s work on Terumo BCT’s headquarters was also recognized as the winner in the Best Office/Retail/Mixed-Use category. Terumo BCT is an innovative medical-device manufacturer that makes products for hospitals and blood banks to safely gather, separate, store, and track donated blood. In partnership with Gensler architects, Swinerton was brought onto the team during schematic design, and the early collaboration provided a high-quality product for the brand new 120,000-square-foot headquarters building.
