On February 25, Swinerton took part in the Hispanic Contractors of Colorado 27th Annual Awards Banquet at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Denver. Swinerton participates in this important and fun community every year, and this year Swinerton was both a Table Sponsor and the Cocktail Sponsor.
There were almost 400 attendees this year, including HCC Members and other businesses in the Denver community. Both large and small firms comprised of general contractors, subcontractors, designers, and engineers, as well as representatives from Denver international Airport, Denver Public Schools, and the Mayor’s office.
The HCC is an organization close to the heart for several Swinerton employees, including Marketing Manager Michelle Sandoval, who currently sits on the Board of Directors, and Director of Community Relations Rick Moore, who is on the Board for the HCC Academy. Together, Michelle and Rick attend HCC’s monthly meetings and provide local networking opportunities at outreach events with HCC members and other small businesses.
The goal of the event is to celebrate a year of the accomplishments to Denver's community leaders and recognize HCC members and their projects. This year’s event also paid tribute to HCC Executive Director Helga Grunerud, who is retiring after 17 years of service with the organization. Helga’s story about how a Hispanic-founded organization hired a German woman to help grow their organization was a hit with the assembled crowd, as she thanked the HCC for understanding that in order to have a powerful, diverse organization, you have to start at home.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock was on hand, and he spoke about growth in Denver and the opportunities for our businesses to grow. Mayor Hancock said his goal is to have MWBE be able to grow from this construction boom and that local people are able to be put to work through many of the programs that Swinerton is a part of and what HCC helps to organize. Swinerton Preconstruction Director Aaron Townsend had the honor of introducing the Mayor.
