Portland Swinvitational Filled with Fun, Games, and Surprises

The Portland Swinvitational returned to The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club in support of The Swinerton Foundation this summer, where 36 teams showcased their golf skills (or lack thereof) to win fabulous prizes on a beautiful Oregon summer day.

Upon arrival, each golfer was presented with a gift bag including a custom Swinerton beer growler from Portland Growler Company, fun swag from the event sponsors, and a Portland office staple—a breakfast burrito. Project Manager Ryan Wasell gave a comedic, welcoming toast and kicked the event off with a not-so shotgun start, signaling the flood of golf carts to race to their starting holes on The Reserve’s challenging South Course.

This year the course was filled with sponsor tents, games, Bloody Mary and microbrew tents, and an ice cream sundae station. Swinerton employees hosted golf pong and water gun target shooting, which seemed easy but proved to be challenging for many golfers. After the five-hour tournament, everyone enjoyed lunch and the awards presentation. A raffle was held with fabulous prizes up for grabs including a Beats wireless headset, an Amazon Echo, a Nike golf bag, a custom Haworth office chair, a Nike wedge, a Nike putter, Bosch cordless impact driver sets, and a Yeti Roadie.

Before announcing the winners, players were informed there had been a secret challenge taking place throughout the tournament—everyone was aiming to beat the Swintern team, comprised of interns from the Portland office and the Cowlitz jobsite. Each team that scored below the Swinterns was presented with a custom Koozie stating, “I played in the 2016 Swinvitational and lost to the Swinterns.”

Pint glass trophies featuring the stunning Mount Hood were awarded to men’s and women’s longest drive, closest to pin, and longest putt, as well as the second place team. The tournament champions received custom pint glass trophies and a round of golf, plus their name on the championship trophy. This year’s Swinvitational was a hit! Thanks to all of our generous sponsors and the help of the Golf Committee, the Portland Swinvitational is estimated to present The Swinerton Foundation with a check of nearly $34,000—a $12,000 increase from last year.
