The Swinvitational Heads to Portland!

This summer, Swinerton Builders Portland held their first Swinvitational at The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club. On a stunning blue-skied Oregon day, 30 teams showcased their talented golf skills to support The Swinerton Foundation.

Swinerton’s own Division Manager Jason Chupp kicked the event off with a welcoming toast and a shotgun start; on his go, golf carts raced to their starting holes on The Reserve’s challenging South Course—a par 72 featuring 114 white sand bunkers, mature Oregon trees, and natural rolling terrain. One of the hole sponsors, Interior Exterior Specialist, delighted golfers with an entertaining marshmallow longest and shortest drive competition. Divided between men and women, each golfer whacked a marshmallow as far as they could using a croquet mallet. The best strategy for hitting a marshmallow successfully? Allow it to get slightly hard on the exterior and then channel your inner Phil Mickelson!

At the end of the tournament several Swinerton employees scored awards, including Miki Hipp for Women’s Longest Drive, and Tom Sparks and Nate Weide for coming in not first, but last place. Thanks to the support of its sponsors, the Portland Swinvitational raised roughly $20,000 for The Swinerton Foundation—not bad for the division’s first tournament!

The success of the event could not have been achieved without our great sponsors: Eastern Steel Erectors, General Sheet Metal Works, Goodfellow Brothers, Harder Mechanical, Streimer Sheet Metal, Don Frank Flooring, American Heating, Anning Johnson, Cherry City Electric, McKinstry, Interior Exterior Specialist, Don Herbst Painting, Oregon Electric Group, Culver Glass, Oregon Commercial Painters, Contract Flooring Consultants, Ness & Campbell Crane & Rigging, Fred Shearer & Sons, McCoy Electric, Cochran Electric, and Alliant Systems. Special thanks to the Golf Committee for an enormously successful event: Amy Roth, Andrew Georgesen, Branch Foote, Danielle Ridgeway, and Miki Hipp!
