Adopt-A-School Program Heads to the Bay AreaContributor: Swinerton Blogger | January 07, 2016
In January 2016, the 51st & Broadway team and Oakland High School will kick-off a partnership through Swinerton’s Adopt-A-School Program. Earlier this month Swinerton’s own Lori Dunn, John Biale, and Stuart Price presented the program to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at Oakland High School to get students excited about construction and recruit members for the new club.
Students will be accepted into the construction club through an essay submission. Upon acceptance, club members will learn about the many facets of the construction industry through courses taught by the 51st & Broadway team, along with Swinerton team members from various departments. The goal of the partnership is to spark students’ interest in a career in the construction field while improving math, reading, and problem-solving skills. Students will also learn the importance of working as a team through firsthand experience. In addition to completing coursework on safety, construction estimating, business development, accounting, technology, green building, and project management, club members will get a chance to visit various jobsites and check out Swinerton’s San Francisco office.
