Employees Spend their Day at CSPContributor: Swinerton Blogger | November 09, 2015 | Image Gallery »
On November 7, dozens of Swinerton Builders Orange County and Los Angeles (OCLA) employees and their families donated their labor with a volunteer morning at Community Service Program (CSP) Huntington Beach Youth Shelter. The Youth Shelter provides a safe haven for youth who are at-risk for homelessness, abuse, institutionalization, incarceration, or hospitalization. The not-for-profit organization provides them with shelter, meals, 24-hour supervision, counseling, academic tutoring, prevention education, and
life skills activities.
The OCLA team spent over five hours on site, performing some much needed repairs and improvements, and filled the organization’s pantry with food for the season. They built a ramp to the outside food shed, replaced siding on the house, and fixed multiple doors and hinges that were not closing properly. They also power-washed the gazebo and hardscape, filled their empty potholder with flowers, and cleaned picnic tables and benches. To clear an overgrown pepper tree above a storage container where CSP holds many of their fundraising materials, the team had to drastically cut back the tree prior to weatherproofing it, allowing for the container to be accessible for many years to come.
Inside the house, the team cleaned the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living room, along with the carpet throughout the home. They also cleaned and organized the pantry, as well as the storage shed in the back of the house. In addition to their organizing and cleaning efforts, the team delivered over $1,300 worth of goods collected by the Orange County and Los Angles office, ranging from paper goods to school supplies, and a variety of foods.
Many thanks to everyone who participated and for taking the time out of your weekend to assist those in need!
