LA Receives Honorary Award from St. John’sContributor: Swinerton Blogger | September 30, 2014
At this year’s Moveable Feast, St. John’s Well Child and Family Center presented the Advocate Award to Swinerton Builders Los Angeles. Having done several jobs for St. John’s over the past few years, the division has forged a close relationship with St. John’s dedicated staff. In early 2012, Swinerton completed a renovation of one of their South Los Angeles clinics. In spring of 2013, they completed a second renovation to add a women’s health clinic and a children’s dental clinic.
St. John’s Well Child and Family Center is an independent nonprofit community health center with 10 clinics in some of Los Angeles’ neediest neighborhoods. Their mission is to eliminate health disparities in the area; while fostering community well-being in the process. Swinerton employees committed themselves to the cause immediately upon joining forces. Every holiday season, they participate in St. John’s canned food drive. Over the past two years, Swinerton has collected more than 8,000 canned goods and also volunteered their time to pack the food into bags and then distribute them.
The Fourth Annual Moveable Feast was held at the historic Park Plaza Hotel near downtown Los Angeles on April 27. Celebrating St. John’s 50th anniversary, the well-attended event featured local cuisine from a variety of the area’s top chefs and eateries. By day’s end, the event had raised over $117,000 in support of their clinics. In honor of Swinerton’s contributions over the years, St. John’s honored them with the Advocate Award. St. John’s President and CEO thanked Swinerton for their involvement, and Kim Grant accepted the award on behalf of the Los Angeles division.
