Swinerton Builders Gives Back to a Well Deserved Community!Contributor: Swinerton Blogger | December 10, 2014
Swinerton Builders recently presented Neighborhood Youth Achievers (NYA) with a check in support of the Los Angeles division’s Adopt-A-School Program at Jordan High School in Watts. NYA will serve as the program’s fiscal agent, helping to provide financial support and administration for interested students. A 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, NYA is an outgrowth of the successful Southeast Weed and Seed Program. This national program was developed to weed out crime in inner cities and seed them with meaningful programs to make a difference in the lives of the residents of the community. The mission of the NYA is to use education, training, and counseling in order to effect the reduction of violence and its impact on the health and wellbeing of the youth, young adults, and their families who reside in the targeted area of South Los Angeles. This is accomplished through the participation and collaboration of a multi-disciplinary network of agencies.
The purpose of NYA is to improve the quality of life in the targeted areas by developing skilled, academically proficient students, ethical and sensitive leaders of diverse backgrounds and cultures, and to provide a network of support and guidance to youths and young adults. The mission, vision, and purpose of NYA are in line with the focus of Swinerton’s Adopt-A-School Program: Math, English, and Critical Thinking/Problem Solving skills. As an added benefit, students will be introduced to the world of construction with structured visits to the Jordan High School jobsite.
