Swinerton Supports CABPES JETS ProgramContributor: Swinerton Blogger | June 10, 2015
The Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (CABPES) is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging African-Americans and other underrepresented youth to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. By doing so, the number of minority STEM professionals will increase to a level that better represents the minority population, while assisting the industry in meeting the growing demand for STEM professionals.
This past March, former Swinerton Builders employee Larry Neal participated in the CABPES JETS (Junior Engineers, Tomorrow’s Scientists) program, which is designed to develop student interest in engineering and applied sciences. Throughout each course in the program, industry professionals volunteer their time to teach and advise students, and offer them with hands-on opportunities
Larry Neal understands the value of giving back to the communities in which Swinerton builds. As a mentor in the JETS program, he fostered curiosity, accountability, enthusiasm, and achievement. Additionally during the JETS program, Larry conducted two two-hour session classes on estimating. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteers along with the initiatives of CABPES, these programs will serve to revolutionize teaching in order to meet the changing needs of our students and society.
