Swinerton Builders and joint venture partner Webcor are excited to announce the groundbreaking of the Oceanwide Center.
Swinerton CEO Jeff Hoopes and Webcor CEO Jes Pederson attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Oceanwide Center on Thursday, where San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, Oceanwide Chairman Xiaosheng Han, and others spoke to celebrate the momentous occasion for the city of San Francisco.
Consisting of two towers—one facing First Street and one facing Mission Street—and two historic buildings, Oceanwide Center will bring 24-hour activity to the Transit Center District. The pair of towers will be one of the largest and most complex construction projects in the history of San Francisco and will change the city’s skyline.
Designed by Foster+Partners and Heller Manus architects, the project will encompass 265 residential units, approximately one million square feet of unique large-floorplate office use, a 169-room Waldorf-Astoria hotel, and 26,000 square feet of interconnected open spaces and public plazas, highlighted by a vast, five-story-tall public square or ‘Urban Room’ adjacent to First Street.
Swinerton and Webcor, both headquartered in San Francisco, elected to form a joint-venture in order to provide exacting, high-quality construction services for this high-visibility project for the city they both call home.
