The crews at the Rio Bravo 1, Rio Bravo 2, and Wildwood 2 jobsites gathered under clear blue skies in Lost Hills, California for an employee appreciation barbeque hosted by the Swinerton Renewable Energy (SRE) project teams. About 300 employees from Swinerton, Local 220, and subcontractors including Baker Electric, Live Action, Gold Star Fence, and Construction Innovations were in attendance. Bakersfield’s Fred’s Barbeque Factory was on site to cater the event held at Wildwood 2.
SRE has been hosting employee appreciation events since 2008, inspired by an SRE superintendent who wanted to show thanks for the commitment shown by his crew. With most projects located in remote areas, an on-site barbeque proved to be an ideal way to provide a hot lunch to employees on location, with the first lunches grilled on Swinerton’s own barbeque trailer driven up from the San Diego office.
Since 2012, each project has held an employee appreciation barbeque to recognize employees from SRE and its subcontractors for their hard work and dedication to the work done on site. In addition to lunch, most barbeques include a raffle where attendees have the opportunity to win tools, gift cards, as well as SRE hats, shirts, and gear donated by Swinerton and subcontractors.
