On October 17, Swinerton Builders Texas joined the Real Estate Council of Austin (RECA) for their 24th annual Christmas in October event. A longstanding tradition of the non-profit—spanning more than two decades—each year RECA selects an organization to receive an early Christmas gift of renovations, rejuvenations, and repairs to their chosen facility. A longtime supporter of the non-profit, in 2014 Swinerton team members performed repairs at SafePlace—the beneficiary selected for their 23rd annual celebration. This year RECA’s 2015 LDC class chose to partner with the Blackland Community Development Corporation (BCDC), an affordable housing organization located in East Austin.
Spearheaded by Swinerton Builders Senior Estimator and RECA Christmas in October Co-Chair Dustin Blankenship, Swinerton employees, volunteers, and subcontractors railed together to redesign and renovate the BCDS’s shared conservatory and play spaces, along with a complete redesign of the building’s entryway.
Thanks to the generous efforts of all participants, along with contributions from The Swinerton Foundation, a total of 182 volunteer hours were donated, and over $12,000 was raised for the organization.
Special thanks to Dustin Blankenship for leading the efforts and all volunteers for your time and dedication. A huge thank you to Marek Brothers, Neihi Glass, HR Marc Company, Inc., and Coburn & Company for donating materials and labor for the repairs, along with your monetary contributions.
