How you can help those affected by the fires in Northern CaliforniaContributor: Swinerton Blogger | October 13, 2017
Swinerton has received many inquiries regarding how employees can help those affected by the deadly wildfires that are still raging in Northern California. While the situation is very chaotic at the moment, we wanted to assure everyone that we are closely monitoring the situation and reaching out to city agencies and non-profit partners to determine the best way we can support our neighbors.
Matching Gifts – Through Swinerton Cares, any donations made by employees to assist with relief efforts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Foundation. You can donate directly online here to the American Red Cross, or you can donate directly on the site to any of the charities who are responding to the crisis, including:
- The Community Foundation of Sonoma County
- Community Foundation of Napa Valley
- California Association of Food Banks
Items Needed – From now until the end of October, Swinerton will be accepting the following donations at our 260 Townsend office and 685 Market Street project site in San Francisco:
- Paper Towels
- Toilet Paper
- Diapers (adult and children)
Additionally, The Swinerton Foundation has donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross’ Wildfire Fund, the NorCal group will be donating 1,000 dust masks, and our friends at White Cap have graciously agreed to give us a discount on the dust masks and donate two pallets of water and some First Aid kits.
Most charities prefer monetary donations, especially if you do not live near the affected area. These are more flexible and cause less of a strain on the charity, allowing them to help more.
