Swinerton Spartans Take the FieldContributor: Swinerton Blogger | September 13, 2013
This summer, Swinerton Builders Hawaii entered the world of sports as they joined the Annual Bishop Square Softball Tournament at Kapiolani Park. It was easy to assemble players for a team, but there was one problem—choosing a team name and mascot. After a grueling lunch hour and a highly extensive creative process, the talented group at the Hawaii main office came up with the “Swinerton Spartans.” The Spartan was chosen for its undying and unforgiving fighting spirit along with the slogan, “No Retreat. No Surrender.” The team slogan was taken from the recent movie adaptation of the Spartans, 300, as well the title of a lesser-known martial arts movie from the 80s starring a very young Jean Claude Van Damme.
The Swinerton Spartans team captain, Project Engineer Hanson Wong, was backed by a surprisingly talented pool of co-ed athletes and heavy hitters. At the end of the day, the victorious Spartans took home fifth place on their first Softball tournament and enjoyed a day of camaraderie, refreshments, and a bountiful feast of barbeque. The Spartans fought hard, never surrendered, and will most certainly look forward to doing it again next year!
