Making a Difference Where It Matters
Swinerton Builders Sacramento has been a longtime supporter of St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children. Since its founding in 1985, St. John’s has served more than 29,000 homeless mothers and children by providing them the tools to gain economic self-sufficiency through job training and placement, career advice, supportive services, and a place to live.
As the largest shelter in Sacramento County, St. John’s embarked on an effort to expand its shelter to accommodate more families. Thanks to a $1 million state grant and private donations, St. John’s purchased a former office complex to renovate, which will provide the needed space to expand its program, offer a licensed daycare facility, and provide 31 bedrooms compared to the current 14.
Swinerton’s Sacramento division has been hard at work offering our support and construction services while St. John’s goes through the renovation process. Delighted by our continued contribution and generosity, St. John’s awarded us with a bedroom sponsorship for the new facility. This sponsorship allows us to decorate a room in any theme we choose and will display a plaque on the door of the room listing our sponsorship. The theme of our sponsored room is “Life is an Adventure,” and will feature jungle/safari décor and the following quote: “The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.” A grand opening celebration will be held on April 4. Stay tuned for an update and photos in the next issue of the Quarterly!
