Sacramento Raises Thousands for ASF

Together, Swinerton’s Sacramento building group, the Northern California Healthcare group, and Concrete Services kicked off a fundraising campaign for a cause close to their hearts, the Angelman Syndrome Foundation (ASF). The teams took this pledge to heart as the daughter of Swinerton Senior Project Engineer Jason Miller, Elizabeth, was recently diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome. Angelman Syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 12,000 to 20,000 people.

ASF raises money to advance the awareness and treatment of Angelman syndrome through education and information, research, and support for individuals with this disease and their families.

“Little Elizabeth Pearl Miller was born on February 17, 2016. This was the happiest day of my life,” Jason said. “She is a happy, beautiful little girl.”

The fundraiser kicked off on March 17 with a St. Patrick’s Day luncheon, signaling the start of eight weeks of fundraising for ASF. While the party included a fun lunch, and photo opportunities with resident leprechaun, Ben Trantham, employees made generous donations to the cause. Division Managers Curtis Johnson and Alan Wolf matched employee donations.

“I have been truly blown away by the generosity shown by Swinerton, its great leaders, and employees,” Jason said.

In late April the divisions put together a food truck party inviting neighbors as well as industry partners to raise additional funds for ASF.

May has also been a busy month. The divisions held a Cinco de Mayo celebration, a baked goods silent auction, and attended the ASF Walk on May 13. Team Swinerton walked together in support of Elizabeth and the Miller family. The walk is one of ASF’s largest events in Sacramento and helps the Foundation support research and raise awareness all over the country about Angelman Syndrome.

With help from The Swinerton Foundation, which donated $5,000, the team raised $20,770.75 for ASF.

Thank you to all Sacramento team members for your overwhelming support of the Miller family, and for participating in such a worthy cause!
