Macy’s Transformation on Track in San Francisco

By Marisa Williams

To date, Swinerton has completed four mini-phases of the Macy’s Union Square Consolidation project in San Francisco. The first completed phase was a new Wine Bar located on the third floor. The wine bar required new electrical, plumbing, and interior finishes. The new space opened on August 14 to the public, and store guests and staff have enjoyed the new bar.

The second completed phase is on the 7th floor. As a part of the consolidation, Macy’s redesigned its 7th floor West Building to accommodate its textiles department. The interior renovations consisted of new lighting, painting, flooring, millwork, and other miscellaneous trades. In mid-October, Swinerton completed the remodel of an existing Starbucks on the 4th floor and a brand new men’s restroom on the 3rd floor.

Just in time for the shopping season is the turnover of the housewares department in the lower level. Typical interior finishes such as painting, flooring, and millwork were required to complete renovation of this space.

To close out 2017, Swinerton has work occurring on the 7th floor Geary Street side and in the lower level food court. Starting in January 2018, the project team will be busier with more work on all the floors throughout the store. Projected completion date of all construction is set for summer 2019.
