Swinerton Builders Hawaii Wins 2009 Community Service Award

On February 10th, GCA's Executive Vice President Johnny Higa presented Swinerton Builders Hawaii with their 2009 Community Service Award. Swinerton  was the top General Contractor in collecting the most cash ($3,565) and food (589 lbs.) for last year's GCA Hawaii Foodbank Drive.

Bank of America Tower at 450 B Street Receives TOBY Award

Downtown San Diego’s Bank of America Tower located at 450 B Street was awarded The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award under the Renovated Building category in late December 2009.  The prestigious TOBY competition is held in conjunction with Building Owner’s Management Association (BOMA) International (www.boma.org).  The TOBY Award is bestowed as the highest mark of excellence for office building management.

 

Swinerton Builders (www.swinerton.com) of San Diego, California was the General Contractor for the project.

CA Construction Honors Mary Avenue Footbridge

Winning the Outstanding Engineering Design Award from California Construction was the Mary Ave Bicycle Footbridge project, which also took home an award of merit in the transportation/facilities category. Swinerton Management & Consulting was the CM on the bridge, which is located in in the city of Cupertino.

Swinerton Wins AIA Design Award!

The CSU Fresno State Library has just won another Design Award from the Long Beach/South Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects! Every two years since 1968, The AIA Long Beach/South Bay Chapter, has celebrated outstanding architecture through its Biennial Design Awards Program.

Laguna Beach Project Wins CA Construction Best of 2009

The Laguna Beach Community/Senior Center has been selected California Construction Magazine’s Best of 2009 Projects Cultural Winner for Southern California. Swinerton Builders was the General Contractor on the project and submitted for the award on behalf of the city of Laguna Beach.

Paul Hastings at La Jolla Commons Honored

McGraw-Hill Construction awarded Swinerton Builders San Diego for the Paul Hastings at La Jolla Commons project. This project has won the Award of Merit in the Interior Design/Tenant Improvement category, for the California Construction region.

 

Congratulations to the Project Staff, which includes: Terri Schmid, Lauren Nunnally, Mike Terry, Michelle Alford and Laura Martinez.

Swinerton Buiilders San Diego was awarded by the AGC San Diego Chapter for the Pala Casino and Spa Expansion and Renovation.

SMC Receives National CMAA Award

The Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge in Cupertino, California, received a National Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America in the category of infrastructure projects under $15-million. Swinerton Management & Consulting was the CM on the project.

Affordable Housing Finance Magazine Honors 990 Polk

Affordable Housng Finance Magazine has named 990 Polk Street in San Francisco the overall winner of its 2009 Readers Choice Award. Swinerton Builders was the General Contractor on the $35 million project.

SMC's Mary Avenue Footbridge Wins Best of 2009 Award

McGraw Hill Construction awarded Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge an Outstanding Engineering Design & Merit for Infrastructure and Transportation in their Best of 2009. Swinerton Management & Consulting was the CM on the project.

The American Society of Civil Engineers, San Francisco section, awarded the Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge "Outstanding Bridge Project of the Year." Swinerton Management & Consulting was the CM on the project.

Paradise in Progress Program Recognizes Outstanding Participants

Downtown projects and future prospects were the focus of the 10th annual Paradise in Progress (PIP) annual breakfast held in late April. Partners in Paradise awards were handed out to individuals who demonstrated remarkable commitment in communicating project timelines and known public impacts that would result from downtown construction. Their consistent communication enabled PIP to effectively communicate street and lane closures, changes in traffic patterns and alternative routes and recommendations to residents, visitors and workers of downtown.

 

Four Partners in Paradise were recognized, including Swinerton for their project Sapphire Tower.

Swinerton Builders Colorado "One Lincoln Park" Receives Downtown Denver Project of the Year

In Colorado Construction's Developers of the Year issue, Swinerton Builders Colorado's One Lincoln Park received Downtown Denver Project of the Year.

 

The $100-million, 32-story One Lincoln Park residential development in downtown Denver features 186 luxury residential units and a unique design that has changed the skylone at the eastern edge of Denver's central business district.

Swinerton Builders Wins AGC 2009 Safety Award of Excellence

Swinerton Builders was one of the few prestigous companies honored with a 2009 Safety Award of Excellence from the AGC of California.  Swinerton took home the award in the category "Building Division Over 1 million Worker Hours."

 

HMH Builders was also honored, and received an award in the category "Building Division 500,000 - 1 million worker hours."

At the 2009 GCA Build Hawaii Awards, Swinerton Builders Hawaii was honored with three awards:

 

Award of Merit, in the category "Building Construction $1 million to $10 million" for the Hilton Hawaiin Dolphin Quest Interactive Mammal Learning Center

 

Award of Merit, in the categroy "Environmental" for University of Hawaii Manoa, Frear Student Housing

 

Honorable Mention, in thecategory "Building Construction More Than $25 million" for  Marriott's Maui Ocean Club, Phase 2

Swinerton Wins First Place Construction Safety Excellence Award from AGC
California-based Swinerton Builders was named today as one of the safest construction companies in America this year. The company, which won first place in the construction management division of the Construction Safety Excellence Award from the Associated General Contractors of America was recognied for the strength of it safety program and its overall safety performance during 2008.

Swinerton Wins Excellence in Safety and President's Safety Award from CEA

At the Annual CEA event, Swinerton Builders as honored with an Excellence in Safety and President's Safety Award.

 

Recipients of the prestigious President's Safety Award reported a total incident rate 50 percent below the industry average, a lost workday incident rate 50 percent below the industry average, an experience modification rate ≤ .70; and were either a recognized participant in a Cal/OSHA partnership program or demonstrated a comprehensive safety training program.

CHOC PICU Receives Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence

Swinerton Builders Orange County was the contractor on the project.

 

CHOC Children's Hospital is proud to announce that its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, an award given by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). CHOC's PICU is the first pediatric unit in the nation to be recognized with the Beacon Award, representing extraordinary commitment to high-quality critical care standards and dedication to the exceptional care of patients and their families. As a Beacon Award recipient, CHOC's PICU succeeded in the following areas, as measured against evidence-based national criteria:

 

  • Recruitment and retention
  • Education, training and mentoring
  • Research and evidence-based practice
  • Patient outcomes
  • Leadership and organization ethics
  • Healing environment

 

AACN applauds the efforts and success of the PICU at CHOC Children's Hospital, which will now serve as a beacon for other hospitals and healthcare facilities.

Santa Fe Civic Center Wins Southwest Contractor 2008 Best of New Mexico
In the category "Best Project Management/Team" Cameron Swinerton was awarded a 2008 Best of New Mexico award from Southwest Contractor for the Santa Fe Civic Center.

Swinerton Wins 9th Consecutive WRAP Award

On October 28th, The California Integrated Waste Management Board recognized Swinerton Builders as one of the top waste reducing companies in California as it awarded Swinerton with its ninth consecutive WRAP (Waste Reduction Awards Program) award.

 

The WRAP award honors California businesses that reduce waste. Through construction debris recycling programs, green construction techniques and outreach efforts in educating employees, subcontractors and clients to the benefits of waste reduction, Swinerton has demonstrated for nine consecutive years that it is a leader in waste reduction.

 

Highlights of Swinerton's waste reduction efforts include:

  • 80% average recovery rate of construction debris at all of its projects
  • Approximately 24,000 tons of construction debris recycled

Swinerton Builders San Diego was named a Precast California Winner by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Manufacturers Association of California (PCMAC) for the Pala Casino Spa and Resort North Parking Garage in Temecula, California.

Swinerton Builders Los Angeles Awarded Best of California 2008
The City of Burbank Community Services Building was winner in California Construction's Best of California 2008, in the Civic category, for Southern California. The project is the city of Burbank's first green building and is seeking LEED certification.

Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club Wins in California Construction's Best of CA 2008

The Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club won California Construction's Award of Merit, in the Restoration category, for Northern California! 

 

According to Robert Carlsen, the managing editor, "Our judges this year felt the Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club project excelled in its innovative design as well as facing some tough challenges in completing this restoration project.  Judges also pointed out its special benefits to the community at large."
