George Ehara, vice president and division manager for Swinerton Builders Hawaii, points out, “In the first quarter of 2009, the economy basically fell off a cliff, yet we remained profitable in 2009 on a much smaller revenue base.”

We are an employee-owned company and many of our employees are shareholders. Our people understand that construction is our only focus and as a company that was founded in 1888, we are in it for the long run.

“We have been very fortunate to remain profitable in 2009,” Ehara emphasizes, “and things are looking even better in 2010. We have picked up almost $150 million in new work since the beginning of the year.

Swinerton Builders San Diego's UCSD Housing & Dining Facility project wins American Institute of Architects' (AIA) Divine Detail Award. The project was honored June 19th at the AIA Design Awards 50th Anniversary in La Jolla, CA. This win would not have been possible without our friends at Studio E Architects and their divine design.

The AIA's Divine Detail Award "recognizes a specific, ingenious and graceful design detail that is worthy of recognition all by itself."

Swinerton Builders Colorado completed the high-rise One Lincoln Park and the renovation of Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, both of which recently received a Downtown Denver Award!

BD+C's 13th Annual Building Team Awards expert panel of judges, architects, engineers, contractors, and educators have selected Ritz-Carlton Highlands for a Silver Award!

Swinerton Builders San Francisco completed the construction, as a joint venture with Q&D Construction.

Swinerton Builders Los Angeles receives a 2010 AGC Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Special Recognition Award for the JPL Flight Projects Center, in Pasedena.

"These awards acknowledge and encourage the fact that great builders must also be clear communicators and strong coordinators," said Doug Pruitt, the association’s president. "Finesse, patience and planning are as essential as concrete and steel for converting plans into reality."

Pruitt said Swinerton was selected because of its success partnering with a range of government and outside groups to complete NASA’s first LEED Gold Building at the Pasadena location. The new building allows engineers and scientists from across the globe to collaborate closely during critical space missions.

JPL's environmentally friendly Flight Projects Center received a "Green Building Award" at the fourth annual Green California Leadership Awards, held during this week's Green California Summit. Swinerton Builders Los Angeles was the general contractor on the LEED Gold project.

On February 10th, GCA's Executive Vice President Johnny Higa presented Swinerton Builders Hawaii with their 2009 Community Service Award. Swinerton  was the top General Contractor in collecting the most cash ($3,565) and food (589 lbs.) for last year's GCA Hawaii Foodbank Drive.

Downtown San Diego’s Bank of America Tower located at 450 B Street was awarded The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award under the Renovated Building category in late December 2009.  The prestigious TOBY competition is held in conjunction with Building Owner’s Management Association (BOMA) International (www.boma.org).  The TOBY Award is bestowed as the highest mark of excellence for office building management.

Bank of America Tower at 450 B Street Receives TOBY Award

Winning the Outstanding Engineering Design Award from California Construction was the Mary Ave Bicycle Footbridge project, which also took home an award of merit in the transportation/facilities category. Swinerton Management & Consulting was the CM on the bridge, which is located in in the city of Cupertino.

The CSU Fresno State Library has just won another Design Award from the Long Beach/South Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects! Every two years since 1968, The AIA Long Beach/South Bay Chapter, has celebrated outstanding architecture through its Biennial Design Awards Program.

The Laguna Beach Community/Senior Center has been selected California Construction Magazine’s Best of 2009 Projects Cultural Winner for Southern California. Swinerton Builders was the General Contractor on the project and submitted for the award on behalf of the city of Laguna Beach.

McGraw-Hill Construction awarded Swinerton Builders San Diego for the Paul Hastings at La Jolla Commons project. This project has won the Award of Merit in the Interior Design/Tenant Improvement category, for the California Construction region.

Swinerton Buiilders San Diego was awarded by the AGC San Diego Chapter for the Pala Casino and Spa Expansion and Renovation.

The Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge in Cupertino, California, received a National Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America in the category of infrastructure projects under $15-million. Swinerton Management & Consulting was the CM on the project.

Affordable Housng Finance Magazine has named 990 Polk Street in San Francisco the overall winner of its 2009 Readers Choice Award. Swinerton Builders was the General Contractor on the $35 million project.

McGraw Hill Construction awarded Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge an Outstanding Engineering Design & Merit for Infrastructure and Transportation in their Best of 2009. Swinerton Management & Consulting was the CM on the project.

Swinerton Management & Consulting's Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge project received a 2009 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence, in the category Public Works, Infrastructure & Transportation.
