Barona Facility Awarded LEED Silver Certification
The Barona Band of Mission Indians announced today that it has been awarded LEEDâ„¢ Silver level certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its new Tribal Government building.
Designed by Atlanta-based Baker Barrios Architects, Inc. and built by Swinerton Builders of San Diego, the 35,412 square-foot two-story structure meets and in most cases exceeds local and state environmental requirements.

Winners Chosen for AGC's 23rd Annual Constructor Awards
Six outstanding projects built by AGC of California contractors were chosen as winners in the 23rd annual Associated General Contractors of California's Constructor Awards program.
AGC of California presented its annual Achievement Awards during the event as well. David Higgins, Sr., a founding partner in Harbison-Mahony-Higgins (HMH), Sacramento, received AGC’s Contractor Achievement Award, honoring his longtime service and contribution to the construction industry.
HMH and WPY were both also honored as finalists in seperate categories, for CalSTRS and Wolfe Road Overhead Rehabilitation, respectively.

Greenest in Government: DOE, NASA Buildings to use 'Net Zero' Energy
NASA's building is a 50,000-square-foot, two-story office located at Ames Research Center, near the south end of the San Francisco Bay. Construction should be completed by the end of the year, the General Contractor is Swinerton Builders Silicon Valley.
The 210 employees who will move to the new facility in the spring currently work out of two 50-year-old facilities that will be demolished.

Sustainability Spotlight: Notable Achievements in Green Building
JPL's environmentally friendly Flight Projects Center recently received a Green Building Award at the fourth annual California Green Summit. The Flight Projects Center houses space exploration missions in the early design and development phases, and is NASA's first Gold-certified building under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. The building’s green assets include: a drought-resistant rooftop garden, low-flow faucets and toilets, a smart heating and cooling system, outdoor lights that reduce light pollution, to name a few.

Bay Area Market Report: NASA Sustainability Base
Being inside Sustainability Base, a $20-million, 50,000-square-foot steel frame building going up at Mountain View's NASA Ames Research Center at Moffet Federal Airfield, may well be the closest you'll ever come to visiting the moon.
To achieve its objective of platinum LEED-certified building, NASA Ames hired the Silicon Valley office of Swinerton Builders as general contractor and AECOM of Los Angeles as architect of record, along with Williams McDonough & Associates as design architect.

Center for the Sciences to Open for Fall 2010
The Center for the Sciences is scheduled to finish construction June 30, according to Andrew Ramsay, one of two deputy directors in charge of the project.
Swinerton Management and Consulting is employed by Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) and is the company that oversees all the construction projects done on Pierce College’s campus.
Swinerton Management and Consulting is also currently supervising many other projects on campus, such as construction on the Mall and the Child Development Center.

Kaiser Permanent has agreed to deploy 15-megawatts of solar power in a deal that will put solar power systems at 15 facilites across the date by the summer of 2001.

Sign of Things to Come
The latest edition to the Pierce campus is a 28-foot tall electronic marquee that is being built on the corner of Winnetka Avenue and Victory Boulevard, which will be up and running next month.
According to Ed Cadena of Swinerton Incorporated, deputy director in charge of the project, the electronic marquee is part of the $1.1 million Gateway and Entrances Project and was also help funded from a source found through Congressman Brad Sherman‘s office.
