Although Swinerton Builders Hawaii opened their Honolulu office in 2003, the Company has a long history on the Islands, as builders of some of the most notable hotels, high-rises, condominiums, apartments and resorts in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Today, Swinerton Builders Hawaii is again part of the Islands' community and maintains a more diverse portfolio of projects, including retail and education facilities on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu and Maui.

Swinerton's history in Hawaii began 46 years ago in 1961, when Swinerton opened its Honolulu office and built the Sheraton-Maui Hotel and two posh condominium apartment buildings:  999 and 1001 Wilder Avenue. Landmark Waikiki properties soon followed, such as the Moana Surfrider Hotel, the Princess Kaiulani Tower, the Sheraton Waikiki Convention Hotel and the Financial Plaza of the Pacific.

In addition to many large, multi-family residential condominiums and apartment buildings, Swinerton Builders continued to build resorts throughout the 70s, including Hilo's Waiakea Village and the Big Island's Mauna Kea Hotel.

The building boom slowed during the ‘80s and ‘90s and our office closed, but Swinerton Builders returned to Kauai in 1992 after Hurricane Iniki to help in rebuilding efforts. The Company completed fast-track repair work on the Puamana Condos and Clubhouse, the Alii Kai Condos in Princeville and the Hanalei Colony Condos in Hanalei.

Today, Swinerton Builders Hawaii is again working hard on the Islands, with projects like the Marriott Maui Ocean Club, state-of-the-art student housing on the University of Hawai''s flagship Manoa, Oahu campus and a new Lowe's Home Improvement Center in Kailua-Kona.
