San Antonio, Texas
City Public Service (CPS) is the largest municipally owned energy company providing both natural gas and electric service. The CPS Primary Energy Control Center controls 10,500 miles of electric lines and 4,400 miles of natural gas pipelines. CPS is able to control the distribution of electrical power and gas throughout the service area from this facility. This facility features a hardened structure built using pan-slab construction with a steel frame. It can withstand 200 m.p.h. F3 tornado conditions. All systems have redundant back-up, which allows the facility to be supported during outage. There is over 84 miles of network cable run throughout this facility, which serves as the backbone of the operation. Finishes include acoustic wall panels, athletic flooring, raised access flooring and acoustic partitions. This facility has several green components including a rainwater harvesting system and a field of photovoltaic panels which can be utilized to provide temporary power. The building is also home to their training facility and board room.
