LAX North In-line Baggage Handling Facility
Aviation
Los Angeles, California
This project consisted of the conversion of the existing manual checked baggage screening equipment at the Los Angeles International Airport to automated screening systems at Terminal 3 for the Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA).
The Baggage Screening System Project had two different components associated with it. One component of the project was demolishing the existing Baggage Handling System (BHS), subsystems, and sortation controls, subsequently replacing it with completely new state-of-the-art BHS equipment. This transition had to be done with the existing system still in operation.
The second component was creating a 100% in-line EDS screening security system, which will consists of three screening level classifications. This project required coordination with the Transportation Security Authorities (TSA), Alaska Air Lines, Virgin Air Lines, Independent Terminal Tenants, Department of Building and Safety, and multiple departments within the Los Angeles World Airports.
