Northcom Headquarters Bed-Down Addition
Federal
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Swinerton was the prime contractor for this project involving three elements: 1) construction of an addition to the U.S. Northern Command (Northcom) Headquarters Bed-Down; 2) construction of the Battle Management Center (BMC); and 3) 20 acres of AT/FP improvements around the three-building complex.
The Northcom HQ Bed-Down Addition and BMC (Battle Management Center) provided an 116,000-square-foot addition/improvement that nearly doubled the space occupied by the U.S. Northern Command (Northcom) and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). The project included approximately 100,000 square feet of new construction, consisting of a basement, under-ground/covered-earth facilities and garage, two above-grade floors, covered atrium, food service kitchen/court, SCIF space, training rooms, backup generators, a barbershop, showers, offices for special military operations/communications, and extensive utility relocation. The project also included approximately 16,000 square feet of interior reconfiguration and fit-out within the existing building. The sitework included 20 acres of Anti-Terrorist/Force Protection (ATFP), pavement and road improvements, and landscaping. This scope was successfully coordinated, phased, and completed with minimal disruption to the building occupants
