To maintain and build upon this strength, we offer extensive learning opportunities focused on assisting employees to perform in their current jobs and also on preparing them for new stages in their careers.
Swinerton sponsors company-wide training and development programs, offering focused programs aimed at developing three key groups within the company: Superintendents, Project Managers and Project Engineers. These unique programs bring together instructors with a wealth of experience and knowledge and provide an opportunity for participants to glean from this experience as well as network with their peers and meet with company leaders.
We also offer the LeaderBuilder series, an extensive leadership development program that takes place in four two-day sessions over the course of one year. This program assists Swinerton Managers in assessing their talents, providing tools to better develop organizational and communication skills and enhancing their ability to effectively lead and motive their teams. In addition, these sessions provide the opportunity to work with and learn from peers and share leadership experience and successes.
Course Catalog & Accreditation Programs
Swinerton’s course catalog includes more than 50 instructor-led classes covering technical topics such as subcontractor management, safety, construction law and insurance, as well as professional topics including communication skills, computer proficiency, effective business writing and time management.
Swinerton also supports external training and accreditation as a part of each employee's development. Internal experts on green construction and safety offer LEED AP and Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) study sessions to prepare employees for their accreditation exams, and Swinerton reimburses registration costs for employees who choose to become accredited. In addition to in-person training, employees have access to an extensive array of self-paced learning opportunities, including online courses, CD ROMS, books, and more. There is a library of over 250 self-paced online classes available to all employees on our Swinerton University website, covering topics such as Communication,
Leadership, Software Skills, and more.
The Better Builders Program
As the breadth of General Contractors’ responsibilities has expanded over the years, Swinerton has recognized a fundamental change in the industry that has resulted in Project Engineers spending more time in an office setting, and less time gaining field experience and in-depth construction knowledge consistent with our mission statement and core values.
The Swinerton Better Builders Program is structured to provide Engineers on the job training in twenty-six areas of field construction, called modules, including shoring and excavation, foundation, structural steel, building envelope, site work, interiors & finishes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, conveyance, MEP systems and start-up.
