Hyatt's Andaz Maui at Wailea Opening this Summer

Andaz Maui at Wailea, a 15-acre luxury resort in Maui’s Wailea resort area, is set to open this summer, some six years after its predecessor on the property closed.

The resort, a joint venture between Hyatt Hotels Corp. (NYSE: H) and the property’s owner, Starwood Capital Group, will have 297 rooms and suites, including seven three- to five-bedroom villas; a 15,000 square foot full-service spa with a private adults-only pool, apothecary retail and fitness facility; more than 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space and two restaurants, including Morimoto Maui, Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s second Hawaii restaurant.

“Andaz Maui at Wailea bridges the character of Hawaii with the experiences travelers seek when they visit great destinations around the world – personalized, uncomplicated service and a rich understanding of the local neighborhood,” Andaz Maui at Wailea General Manager Michael Stephens said in a statement. “We look forward to expressing the gracious spirit of Hawaii and inviting guests to indulge in their own personal sense of comfort and style while creating own inspiring experiences in Maui.”

The $90 million redevelopment of the resort property began about a year ago, after the property sat vacant for about five years following the closure of the Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort in 2007.

Several Hawaii-based companies have been involved with the Andaz Maui at Wailea, including SL Busch & Associates as project manager, Swinerton Builders as general contractor and WCIT Architecture as architect. The resort’s interior designer is New York-based Rockwell Group.
