Construction Heavyweight Makes Play for More Austin Business
Several national contractors have opened offices in Austin during the past two years, creating competition for local and regional construction firms with a long history in the Central Texas area.
Now one of the biggest contractors in the country is making a play for more business in the Austin area after opening a small office in 2010.
Vice President Jason Beiter heads up local operations. Recently completed projects include renovations at the Travis County Executive Office Building as well as renovations at the Moody College of Communication and the performing arts center at the University of Texas. The company also handled the tenant improvements for the Porter Alehouse & Gastropub at 3175 S. First St. in the new Tree apartment community.
“We want to develop long-term relationships with local clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors and the public,” Beiter said. “We’ve enjoyed working in Austin and getting to know members of the community.”
Kiewit Corp. is the third-largest contractor in the U.S., according to Engineering News-Record, a publication that closely follows the construction industry. The company had 2013 revenue of $10.8 billion, according to the ENR website. The company has 33,000 employees.
