Hawaii Pacific U picks Swinerton Builders for Aloha Tower redevelopment

Hawaii Pacific University has chosen Swinerton Builders as its general contractor for the private university’s $30 million plan to redevelop the Aloha Tower Marketplace in Downtown Honolulu.

Swinerton Builders will redevelop the Aloha Tower Marketplace in Downtown Honolulu into student dormitories, retail, restaurant spaces as well as other school uses, the company said.

Just recently, HPU chose Honolulu-based architecture firm Group 70 International to come up with a design for the renovation of the marketplace, which is expected to begin in December with the extensive demolition to the existing spaces.

HPU is still aiming at opening the dorms for use in the fall of 2014.

The scope of the work involves the complete renovation of the second floor of the Aloha Tower Marketplace into student dorms that accommodate up to 300 students.

San Francisco-based Swinerton Builders, which has an office in Honolulu, is no stranger to working with educational institutions — the company is part of the development team for Hawaii Tokai International College’s new campus next to the University of Hawaii West Oahu, which is being developed by Haseko Development.
