Portland Off to the Races

The stakes were high at the Hillsboro Schools Foundation Gala and Auction—the annual fundraiser for the school districts’ programs. Swinerton Builders Portland was honored to be a sponsor and participate in the Derby-themed event. They came dressed the part, with the Swinerton gals in spring dresses and big hats, and the men decked out in brightly-colored shirts and bow ties. The evening’s festivities kicked-off with mint juleps, a photo with the Kentucky Derby winner, and a silent auction representing the Triple Crown—Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes. At the close of each auction table the traditional trumpeted overture signaled the end of
the “race.”

When dinner was served, guests were entertained with a video presentation from students, which thanked the attendees for their support. After a spirited live auction, guests were encouraged to donate to the ‘dessert dash’ where over 30 desserts were donated that ranged from Girl Scout cookies to eight-layer cakes. The evening was a great success. The Hillsboro Schools Foundation exceeded their fundraising goals, and each Portland team member either donated additional funds, or named the winner of a silent auction item.

Thank you to all attendees who helped make the event a success: Alex Bullington, Branch Foote, Miki Hipp, John Ciepiela, and Danielle Ridgeway.
