Kalakaua Garden Senior Living Facility Kicks Off in WaikikiContributor: Swinerton Blogger | December 01, 2014
Swinerton is in full swing on the multi-purpose senior care facility “Kalakaua Garden.” The project team began the demolition of the existing building on the property in preparation for the groundwork and foundation of the 17-story facility. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the project site with parties from the architect and owners in attendance. The project was developed by Island Paradise Investments (IPI) and designed by Honolulu-based architect firm, Architects Hawaii.
The Kalakaua Garden is located just outside of Waikiki, across from the Hawaii Convention Center and a half mile away from the state’s biggest shopping mall, the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The new senior facility will include 132 assisted-living units, 32 memory care units, 49 skilled-nursing beds, and a rehabilitation center. It will also feature a library, fitness center, on-site rehabilitation facilities, common and semi-private dining options, a garden and water feature located on the ground floor, a courtyard on the fourth floor, and a 1,800-square-foot outdoor exercise area on the sixth floor.
The Kalakaua Garden is expected to be completed by the end of 2015 and will be the Hawaii division’s most recent vertical construction project since the completion of the University of Hawaii’s Frear Hall Dormitory in 2009.
