On September 14, Swinerton joined project partners TRC, JRDV Architects, and community members for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Safeway store commemorating the completion of Phase 1 of The Ridge—a new outdoor multi-level retail and dining destination located in Oakland, California.
Located at 51st and Broadway, Swinerton completed Phase 1 of the project which involved construction of four buildings occupied by Safeway, Chase Bank, a split Boston Market and Pieology, and nine other retail tenants including Pet Food Express, The Habit, Rockridge Dry Cleaners, and Great Clips.
Various on-site renovations were also made by Swinerton including utility trenching, grading for parking areas, as well as forming, placing, and finishing concrete bio-retention walls; the bio-retention areas were backfilled and are neatly located within landscaping to capture and filter runoff naturally. Swinerton also performed significant off-site work including surveying and layout for two improved intersections with new accessible sidewalks, curbs, landscaping, bike lanes, and additional traffic lanes.

Congratulations and thank you to our project partners and team members for helping deliver a prime new retail destination to Oakland residents!
