Swinerton Takes On Culver StudiosContributor: Swinerton Blogger | November 15, 2018
In August, Swinerton Orange County and Los Angeles started construction of Culver Studios Office Complex. The Culver Studios sits on 14 acres of land in the heart of Culver City, CA. Most famously known for filming movies such as Gone with the Wind and Citizen Kane, the studios were bought in 2014 by Hackman Capital Partners. With the assistance of AMA Project Management, Gensler, and Swinerton, the 100-year-old studio lot will soon be converted into a space for Amazon.
With an estimated project length of 33 months, this massive 280,000-square-foot campus consists of four, four-story office buildings that will serve home to Amazon’s production company, Amazon Studios, as well as their video and advertising departments.
Demolition is currently taking place to safely tear down the existing parking structure, sound stages, office buildings and storage facilities. Once demolition is completed, the team will begin excavating the lot to make way for the below-grade parking which will span the entire footprint of the project site.
For the comfort of neighbors surrounding the studio lot while construction takes place, a 20-foot tall sound dampening wall is being installed along the west side and along parts of the north and south sides of the project. This project site is in the heart of downtown Culver City, an area booming with construction and new development on every corner, including The Culver Steps, a hip and trendy mixed-use development located within steps of the studios which will offer a public plaza for shopping, dining, outdoor movies, concerts, farmers’ markets and more.
Congratulations to the entire team on their continued success and hard work!
