Swinerton Completes Project for New Breed of Client

Swinerton Management and Consulting’s expertise extends beyond providing buildings for students, teachers, and parent volunteers, but facilities to all walks of life.

Located in the of heart Saratoga, California, the team completed work at the scenic garden campus of Christa McAuliffe Elementary School this past summer. In addition to the traditional modernization work that took place inside the classrooms, work continued into the courtyards—not for the students—but for the school’s chickens! The scope included: new finishes, flooring, ventilation, hardscape, and accessibility access.

Consistent with current curriculum, the Christa McAuliffe Elementary School brings the outdoors into their curriculum with lush gardens, mature landscape, and some very happy chickens. Various chickens are brought to campus early each spring as chickens or chick-teens, and are well cared for by the students on campus.

Prior to the campus-wide renovations, the chickens headed off to summer camp while awaiting their new and improved facility—which the team completed on time for the start of the new school year. The Golden Laced Wyandotte Chicken and Black Sex Link are now two of the many breeds that frequent the newly renovated coop area on campus.

Congratulations to the project team for delivering this unique and successful project to a bustling school campus!
