Barren Ridge Solar Reaches Commercial Operation

Recurrent Energy announced the commercial operation of 60 MW Barren Ridge Solar on September 29, 2016. Swinerton Renewable Energy served as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor on the project, which broke ground in 2015 and employed 230 people at peak construction.

Electricity from Barren Ridge will power 25,000 homes through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The project will play a vital role in meeting LADWP’s goal of 50% renewable energy
by 2030.

Helicopters and a specially trained line crew were utilized to construct two miles of high-voltage transmission lines to connect to LADWP’s Barren Ridge Switching Station. This method was selected for its nominal impact on the surrounding environment.
