Anaheim Ducks Training Facility Taking Shape

This summer, Swinerton broke ground on the Great Park Ice and Sports Complex. Located in Irvine on the former site of El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, it is one of many new developments taking place on the 1,000+ acre base. For those unfamiliar with the Orange County Great Park, it is easily recognized off Interstate 5 by a gigantic orange balloon ride.

A design-assist project, four separate ice rinks are being constructed on the 13.5-acre site. One rink will provide the Anaheim Ducks with an extremely convenient training facility, one will be used for Olympic figure skating training, while the other two will serve as public facilities for a variety of ice-related sports. Each will have small spectator stands, with the Ducks having over 2,000 seats and the others about 500. The total structure will stand at a whopping 270,000 square feet.

Once complete, the Great Park Ice and Sports Complex will not only be the largest facility of its kind in the state, but also one of the biggest in the entire country. It will provide the public—especially kids—with new opportunities to learn and excel at ice sports. The project is anticipated to complete in October 2018.
