Strength and Power Helps Meet Difficult Schedule

By Mark Rafferty, Alvaro Flores & Rick Collette

This spring, Swinerton Builders San Diego wrapped up work on the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) Century Park East Campus project. Set adjacent to SDG&E's existing campus, the job was a 92,000-square-foot tenant improvement project that continues the San Diego division’s longstanding relationship with SDG&E. At one point last year, the project team was working on four separate projects around the campus!

Preconstruction services for CP East began in February 2016, while construction began in September.  The upgraded office space features DIRTT raised floor and modular walls throughout. SDG&E employees will also enjoy a new health and wellness area, consisting of a gym, locker rooms, and a yoga studio, as well as a new kitchen and dining area. The building also features numerous project rooms, focus rooms, conference rooms, the largest auditorium on the campus, and a beautiful new lobby complete with a living green wall. The project was slated to reach LEED® Silver, but has been submitted with enough points to potentially reach LEED® Gold certification. The team self-performed the concrete and rough carpentry work through the San Diego Concrete and Drywall groups.

Through the success of the San Diego team and their continued relationship with SDG&E, they were recently awarded another large SDG&E project, which they look forward to kicking off later this summer.

Many thanks to the entire team for meeting the highly challenging schedule: Project Executives Terri Schmid and Scott Kube, Assistant Project Manager Rick Collette, Superintendents Chad Jones and Kasey Ray, Project Engineer Alvaro Flores, Estimator Dan Meeh, Senior Administrative Assistant Maggie Sierra, and Project Accountant Martha Baltazar.
