Clay Shoot a Hit!

Swinerton Builders Silicon Valley recently hosted their first Swinerton Foundation event. On September 19, The Swinerton Foundation Sporting Clay Shoot and BBQ took place at Coyote Valley Sporting Clays in Morgan Hill, California, just south of San Jose.

Trying to break the golf tournament mold of charity events, Silicon Valley’s CSR Community Ambassadors organized the first sporting clay tournament ever associated with The Swinerton Foundation—and it was a booming success. Over 30 different subcontractors participated, some of them entering multiple teams. Close to 150 participants and over 20 volunteers came together to raise over $40,000 for The Foundation.

The participants were welcomed to a picturesque setting in the rolling hills and oak trees by warm coffee and donuts donated by the barbeque caterer. After registering, networking, and grabbing their swag bag, the teams were given a detailed and specific safety speech by one of the three marshals on site for the day. Safety is always a Swinerton priority and this charity event was no different. Teams soon departed for their designated stations and the shotgun start (pun intended) kicked the event off with a bang. Twenty different stations, four different targets, and four shots per person per team kept everyone busy for the next three-and-a-half hours.

Wrapping up the event, the Silicon Valley team and The Swinerton Foundation hosted a barbeque, cigar bar, beer and wine reception, and raffle. Foundation President Lori Dunn gave a great speech to thank all those in attendance. Kelly Smith then took over the microphone and the raffle began. Everything from bottles of wine to DeWalt and
Milwaukee power tools were given away, culminating with two tickets to see the defending world champion Golden
State Warriors.

The first-year event was a huge success and the team has already booked the venue for what we can now call the Second Annual Swinerton Foundation Sporting Clay Shoot and BBQ next year.

A big thank you goes out to all who donated their time and money to this amazing cause and we hope next year and years to come can equal the success we experienced in this first event.
